The free version of WordPress sucks

I signed up for a free version of WordPress at wordpress.com a few months back and dropped $20 - $30, I can't remember exactly for the ability to create custom CSS files.  Well I have come to realize that the custom CSS is pretty much the only thing I can really control.  Other than the header.  I can pick 1 or 2 colors, a title, description or upload a single header image.  No control over the footer.  But I can add crappy widgets, some widgets are supposed to be able to have custom html in them, but I have not seen it work as of yet.

Then after more research if you go to wordpress, org.  You can download a version of WordPress for free and install it on your own server.  On this version, you have full control over the html on the template files.  More than that, for the same price that I paid for custom CSS files, I could have gotten a cheap package from GoDaddy.com that has the ability to have a full blown version of WordPress installed for free as well.  Which is what I will probably do.... but not any time soon.

Makes me sort of mad, but what do you expect for free?  In either case, I want to move my blog from here to my own website sometime down the road.  I want to get back into blogging but I have been so swamped with things.  At least I think so.  I want to get my movie review site up and some other projects... which could probably be blog based.  Maybe I can get them done here in the near future.  Also, too bad there is not an export feature, at least from what I have seen for my existing blog entries.

Man arrested for using a wireless network

    http://www.sptimes.com/2005/07/04/State/Wi_Fi_cloaks_a_new_br.shtml

Check out that article.  My only advice is that you secure your wireless network at home.  If you don't know how, find out.  Wireless networks, especially open ones, are a easy way to have hackers get your informaiton.

The only thing I am not sure of is if he used an  open network, or hacked some lame key.  This article says hacked, while another page pointing to the link said it was open.  Either way, have fun knowing your network might be getting hacked right now!!!!!!!!!!! oooh spooky :P

Starting to get tired of MSN spaces

Well if you want something done right, sometimes you need to do it yourself.  I have issues getting on my blog sometimes to update it.  I might say screw the blog and revamp my home page again now that I have some time after finishing school.  I like the format of the blog though... maybe I can do something like Attack of the Show does.  They seem to up to the ball.

My senior design presentation of my Directory Website Management System was apperently a success.  Now I got a week and a half to bang out a fantastic paper.

    New MSN Messenger Beta

Well, here I am taking a break from working for about 5 minutes and figured what the hell, I would update my blog!!! never thought I would say that.  Anyhow, I updated my MSN Messenger beta today and it's pretty much the same.  Only major difference I have seen is not you can add your own personallized message by your name (joy, they did that anyhow by changing the name it displays).  And also it will also show, if you turn it on, what you are currently "listening" to on the windows media player.  While I see this as a cool feature, its a rip-off of what Yahoo! Messenger has had for a while now, but Yahoo! had the feature tied to thier launch service built into the messenger.  And on the Yahoo! messenger, when you clicked on the song title on the person's name it would open to launch and play the person's station.  Alternativly when you click on the song title on MSN, it opens to MSN Music where you can purchase the CD or song... atleast the CD.  So its just a way for MSN to promote thier MSN Music service.  Wow, can't wait for AOL to follow suite so that we can get a link to Time Warners Record Label portal.

If I was MSN the feature I would probably steal from one of the other services is the ability to manage more than one screen name or profile at one time.  I have 3 passports, I use one and that is a shame since I would like to beable to give out my other email addresses to clients or people I don't really know but talk to them through the same messenger session.  With AIM, you can link differnt screen names.

Either way, I would probably pass on getting this beta version unless you don't care about the 30 seconds it takes to download and install.  Who knows when they will have the final version out, but this is the 3rd beta version I installed for 7.0.  So far its pretty cool.  Check it out.  Later.
