    BCFL Update

    Going in to week 5 of the NFL season, and I figured I would throw a update of my fantasy football progress. I cam currently tied for 1st in my division. And as luck will have it, I play for first place this weekend against the Bucaneers. Hopefully my Bills can beat the Bucs like in the regular season.

    Nine Inch Nails halos

    So I was looking at my music collection recently and I realized that I have 14 of the 27 "Halos" in the NIN catalog.  I guess I might have 16 if you count my two UK imports of Halos 7 and 12.  Don't think I am some sort of geek.  I remember wondering why they were so expensive at the time.  And the UK versions are a bit different than the US track listings.  I also have the UK import of halo 6, but from what I can see the UK and US versions are the same.  In either case, I am missing up to 13 halos.  And really, there are only a handful that I really want to get.  But the NIN fan in me wants to complete the collection.  Maybe some day I will.  I want the DVD collections in particular.  I figure it might be the closest I would ever get to seeing NIN in concert.  That would be on  "All that could have been" which was a concert recording.  I also want to get the 10 year anniversary of "The Downward Spiral".  But I have other things to focus my money and concentration on.

    The free version of WordPress sucks

    I signed up for a free version of WordPress at wordpress.com a few months back and dropped $20 - $30, I can't remember exactly for the ability to create custom CSS files.  Well I have come to realize that the custom CSS is pretty much the only thing I can really control.  Other than the header.  I can pick 1 or 2 colors, a title, description or upload a single header image.  No control over the footer.  But I can add crappy widgets, some widgets are supposed to be able to have custom html in them, but I have not seen it work as of yet.

    Then after more research if you go to wordpress,org.  You can download a version of WordPress for free and install it on your own server.  On this version, you have full control over the html on the template files.  More than that, for the same price that I paid for custom CSS files, I could have gotten a cheap package from GoDaddy.com that has the ability to have a full blown version of WordPress installed for free as well.  Which is what I will probably do.... but not any time soon.

    Makes me sort of mad, but what do you expect for free?  In either case, I want to move my blog from here to my own website sometime down the road.  I want to get back into blogging but I have been so swamped with things.  At least I think so.  I want to get my movie review site up and some other projects... which could probably be blog based.  Maybe I can get them done here in the near future.  Also, too bad there is not an export feature, at least from what I have seen for my existing blog entries.

    My picks for the Buffalo Bills All-Time Team

    I just got done submitting my picks for the Buffalo Bills All-Time team.  Well at least the offensive part of the team.  I might be a little biased picking a few more of the Bills that sent the Bills to 4 straight Super Bowls.  But I made sure that Championship teams of the 1960s and 1990s were represented in my All-Time team.  I will post my defensive picks as soon as they are available to be chosen later in March.  Until then, here are my picks:
    12 - Jim Kelly - Quarterback
    2 - Steve Christie - Kicker
    8 - Brian Moorman - Punter
    34 - Thurman Thomas - Running Back
    83 - Andre Reed - Wide Receiver
    80 - Eric Moulds - Wide Receiver
    44 - Elbert Dubenion - Wide Receiver
    88 - Pete Metzelaars - Tight End
    66 - Billy Shaw - Offensive Line
    51 - Jim Ritcher - Offensive Line
    67 - Kent Hull - Offensive Line
    64/77 - Stew Barber - Offensive Line
    69 - Will Wolford - Offensive Line
    89 - Steve Tasker - Special Teams

    Election related linkis I posted on Facebook

    Greetings all, I have shared a lot of links lately related to the election on my facebook page. For those of you that sometimes frequent my blog but not my facebook page.   Here is a sample of those links.  And below the link is my comment if any.  And I am not a big supporter of McCain, though I am going to vote for him.  I am not asking you to vote for McCain.  But if you are thinking of voting for Obama, think twice before you do.  What do you really know about Obama outside of his fancy speaches?  Hell, his sister and he can not even agree on where he was born. Maybe you could vote for Nader, Barr, Riva, or some other third party candidate.

    Obama 'admits' Kenyan birth?

    Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days
    Don't tell me Obama is not a marxist. He practically waves it in our faces. I mean, I could be wrong. He might not have ever read his own book, that he wrote himself. Yea, I guess I could be wrong. Not to mention that he has a huge lack of experience. I mean people are concerned if McCain dies in office, some how we are screwed with Palin as Vice President. Well wouldn't we be more screwed if Obama did not die in office for Biden to take command. Isn't it better to have a VP that has more experience than the possible sitting president?

    2 Charged With Assaulting GOP Campaign Workers
    A friend of mine who I work with was talking to me about Obama today. He said that Obama has the largest number of volunteers in history working on his campaign. He asked me "What does that tell you about Obama?". Honestly, that he is a good talker, and thats about it. But here is a nice little news story on a few of his supporters. Not sure if they are volunteers or not, but does it really matter?

    How Low Can It Go? Richardson Pegs Middle Class as Those Making Under $120,000
    Don't fool yourself into thinking that Obama wants to help the middle class. He is an elitist. He wants to take as much away from you as possible, and have the government pass out checks to people as it sees fit. There will basically be two classes, the haves (government) and the have nots (everyone else). Forget the label rich and poor. There will basically be a penalty for achieving. If you want to make more money to support your family, under Obama, that extra money you make for bettering yourself will be gone. Distributed to someone else who does not achieve to make themselves better. You can already see this by him lowering the number of income to be considered "Middle Class". It started at $250,000, and now its already down to $150,000 to $120,000. I am not saying vote for McCain. But think twice before voting for Obama.

    Dear Mr Obama

    A Young Liberal Woman

    A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

    She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and an occasional chat with various professors, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

    One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

    Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

    Her father listened and then asked, 'How is your friend Audrey doing?'

    She replied, 'Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes the next day because she's too hung over.'

    Her wise father asked his daughter, 'Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.'

    The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, 'That's a crazy idea. That would not be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!'

    The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently,'Welcome to the Republican party.'

    If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between a Republican Conservative and Democrat Liberal, I'm all ears.

    I modified the end because there is really not much difference between a republican and democrat.  You can have a liberal republican and a conservative democrat.  But in general, we associate conservatism with the republicans, and liberalism with the democrats.  The truth is that there are Democrats who are conservative that I would have voted for over McCain if they were running against him.  Democrats like Zel Miller from Georgia, hell, even JFK I would have voted for.  JFK was more conservative than John McCain is now.  The conservatives do not have a strangle hold on the Republican party like the liberals do on the Democrat party.

    Who just does not get it?

    I got this in my email box earlier in the week.  I have not went through the URLs yet.  I will this weekend.  But feel free to read it if you want.  Interesting stuff here if it is all accurate.  Keep in mind I am not the author, so don't whine to me, I am just passing it along to you.

    <quote>

    It makes you wonder.......who is stupid ???  or just doesn't get it??  This email comes in three parts....Make sure you read all three parts! It is longer than most, but worth the read.

    Part 1
    Remember the election in 2006?

    Thought you might like to read the following:

    A little over one year ago:

    1. Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
    2. Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
    3. The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1. Consumer confidence plummet;
    2. The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.10 a gallon;
    3. Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
    4. American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
    5. Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
    6. 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
    7. Food prices skyrocketing over 30% in 1 year.

    America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!  Remember, it is Congress that makes the laws and spends our money not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

    Part 2:
    Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing. Verify at: http://www.taxfoundation.org/
    publications/show/151.HTML

    Taxes under CLINTON-1999 Taxes under BUSH-2008
    Single earning: Single earning:
    30K taxed: $8,400 30K taxed: $4,500
    50K taxed: $14,000 50K taxed: $12,500
    75K taxed: $23,250 75K taxed: $18,750
    Married earning: Married earning:
    60K taxed: $ 16,800 60K taxed: $   9,000
    75K taxed: $ 21,000 75K taxed: $ 18,750
    125K taxed: $ 38,750 125K taxed: $ 31,250

    Barack Obama promises to return to the higher tax rates if elected. It is amazing how many people who fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If elected, Barack Obama has already promised that he will repeal the Bush tax cuts, and amazingly, a good portion of the people who fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen.

    PART 3:
    You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much?   Read this: Boy, am I confused.  I have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us. I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.  Read on...

    "The Dark Knight" hits $500 Million

    According to Box Office Mojo, "The Dark Knight is expected to take in $8.75 Million this weekend.  This amount would put it over the $500 Million mark.  It is only the second film to do this, when you factor the unadjusted box office total.  If you factor in the adjusted for inflation numbers, the movie is currently sitting at #30.

    Either way you look at this, it is a big deal.  There have been arguments going back and forth as to measure the actual success of this movie.  Here is a small breakdown of what I have seen, plus a few points of my own.

    Why this movie is making a lot of money:
    • People are paying more to see movies now.
    Why this movie could have been more successful than it has:
    • Families are cutting expenses due to higher gas prices.
    • Many people wait for DVDs to come out later in the year, as opposed to 10 - 20 years ago when VHS movies might not be released for 18 - 24 months.  Plus people can have the theater experience at home.
    • Shorter lifespan at the theaters, probably due to the point above.
    • Movie piracy, I am not saying that it did not exist 10 - 20 years ago.  But it is a tad more wide spread than it was.
    Those are a few points that I agree with.  Especially as to why this movie could have made more money than it has.  I wished that there were more accurate numbers as to the number of tickets sold rather than how much it made.  It would be intresting to compare those numbers.  In either case, it is awsome that "The Dark Knight" did as well as it did.  I have read, and agree with it topping out at $525 Million.  Thats a staggering number when you look at all the movies that top out at $400 - 425 Million.  If you have not seen it, please do.  You should not miss this one in theaters, especially the IMAX.

    The Dark Knight

    There is a lot of hype related to this movie.  It surpassed 300 Million+ in 10 days.  On Superherohype.com, alot are eager for this film to take down Titanic at 600 Million+.  Here is what I wrote on the boards of a this thread today.  The Dark Knight Reaches a Record $314.2M in 10 Days!

    "I love the film, but I am not going to hold my breath on it beating Titanic's numbers. I hope at minimum it beats Spider-Man at 404 million+, I would love for it to get 460 million+ and become number 2 all time passing Star Wars. I would be ecstatic to have it be the second movie to earn 500 million+. But I think Titanic's numbers are a far reach. Especially with the higher ticket prices today, and no other film getting close. Though at this time. If any film is going to do it. This would be that film. I saw it 4 times so far. Hope to see it maybe a few more times before I wait to buy it on DVD and have to wait hopefully no more than 3 years for my Nolan directed Batman fix. "

    Needless to say, I love this film.  I only had a few issues with it, that might not even be issues.  If you have not seen it yet, what is wrong with you?  I have not written a review on any films lately.  And I really am not writing one for this movie.  I think with all the other reviews out there, as well as all the buzz surrounding it, nothing on this blog will persuade anyone on the fence from seeing this movie.  I will just say, go see it and you will not be disappointed.

    I will try and get back on the horse with writing on this blog, life just has a way of making one more busy at times than you thought you might be.

    My Answer to the BCS Championship Game

    Note, as conferance championships are determined and the rankings are finallized, I am going to update this post.

    Well thanks to the OSU - Michigan game, and West Virginia - Cincinnati playing later tonight.  I have been thinking of the BCS Bowl Games and how it compares to a playoff system in college football.  I think I have been in favor of a playoff system in the past, but I think the bowl system work.  It just needs fine tuning.  Here is my thoughts on the subject.  There are 11 Division I-A conferances in college football.  Based off of a quick glance at ESPN, there are the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Conference USA, Mid American, Mountain west, Pacific 10, SEC, Sun Belt, and WAC Conferances.  So lets have a 6 bowl game system which features the conferance champion of each conferance plus either the highest rated independent school, or if they all suck, the highest ranked non champion.

    The BCS National Championship game would feature the two highest ranked conferance champions.  Ideally they should be ranked as #1 and #2.  I mean, if you don't win your conferance, how should you expect to be in the national chapionship game?  Also, take out the human polls.  Base the rankings on the computer scores.  Last year I was pumped for a OSU/Michigan rematch in the national championship game.  But how messed up would it be to reconize OSU as the Big Ten Champion and Michigan as the National Champion?  That type of thing would just make the conferance championship somewhat meaningless.  The rest of the bowl games should feature the rest of the conferance champions either based on thier rank, or just by a lottery process.  So this would add 1 more BCS bowl.

    Now in the case of conferances like the Big Ten who can have co-champions.  Either they get a conferance championship game, have tie breaking proceedures based on heads up play, or the BCS will reconize the highest ranked "co champion" as the BCS reconized champion for that conferance.

    Here are the current list of conferance champions (CPU rank, Current BCS rank):
    ACC - Virginia Tech (#1, #3)
    Big 12 - Oklahoma (#6, #4)
    Big East - West Virginia (#10, #9)
    Big Ten - Ohio State University (#3, #1)
    Conference USA - UCF (Unranked)
    Mid American - Miami (Unranked)
    Mountain west - Brigam Young (#19, #17)
    Pacific 10 - Could not find
    SEC - LSU (#2, #2)
    Sun Belt - Florida Atlantic (Unranked) (Florida Atlantic won the conference's automatic bowl bid through a tiebreaker by virtue of its head-to-head victory against Troy.)
    WAC - Hawaii (#12, #10)
    Independent OR Highest Ranked Non Conferance Champion - Missouri (#4, #6)

    And based on the CPU rank, here would be your money game.
    BCS Championship Game: Virginia Tech vs LSU

    The other 10 teams would play in other bowl games.

    What do you think?

    Meh

    So I thought I would say hello once again to my blog. I have been extreamly busy recently. Here are a few short blurps if you are intrested.

    Been looking for a house or new apartment.

    Movies have been so-so lately. The only movies I would write a review about are "300", "The Bourne Ultimatium" and "Transformers". See those if you havenn't already.

    I watched the Bills beat up on the Bengals yesterday. Lynch made a fantastic run during the game.

    That's all for now. Later!

    My Fiance

    Jessica is my fiance. She is simply amazing & I want to tell everyone about it - I want to scream it from the roof-tops. Party  I honestly don't know how I got so lucky finding a girl as intelligent, talented, and gorgeous as she is. And did I mention that I basically robbed the cradle with this one? She's only 22 & she's in the hottest sorority on campus...and you know that Kentucky girls are the best.

    Although she is extremely high maintenance (she requires manicures and pedicures on alternating weekends) and quite fussy at times (I should never deprive her of her Saturday "me nights"), I know that she is worth the extra effort. Even though she burns home-cooked meals and refuses to take lessons, it doesn't matter. One day she will be a highly paid doctor of anesthesiology and she can pay someone else to slave away in that unkown territory we know as the kitchen.

    I love her! That's my Story and I'm sticking to it!

    House votes to increase the minimum wage.

    Great, so over the next two years minimum wage is going to increase by $2.10.  That's fantastic news for those who keep their jobs.  The others that the companies can't afford to pay will be screwed as they have to hit the unemployment lines.  Walmart won't be hit as much as the small family owned companies.

    The unemployment rate will go up, and the media will blame Bush as we get closer to 2008.  Hope you all enjoy the new congress you voted in who while voting for this won't see much of the blame.  You got to love the media.

    Can't say much about him as I did not follow him as much as other Presidents.  I do know he pardoned Nixon.  But he was a President non the less and should be remembered as he will be.  God speed sir.

    Merry Christmas

    For My Democratic Friends:

    "Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or s ecular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes. By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her self or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher."
